There are lots of places you could plant roots in Montana. But here at Saddlehorn, we think Bigfork, Montana, just might be the best. Our mountain community sits minutes from downtown, which gives us easy access to Bigfork, its downtown and local businesses.

If you’re curious about the village by the bay, here are five things to know about Bigfork.
1. It sits on Flathead Lake.
Bigfork sits on the aptly named Bigfork Bay of Flathead Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake in the West. From its location on the northeast end of the lake, Bigfork provides a fantastic launching point for playing on its snow-fed waters.
2. It has its own theater.
With a population of just under 5,000 residents, it may come as a surprise that Bigfork has its own theater. But it’s true. Meet the Bigfork Summer Playhouse. Affectionately called the “theater by the bay,” it has live performances from May through September, with a variety of shows playing throughout the season.
3. Bigfork has a charming downtown.
While its downtown isn’t large, it sure does pack a punch. Whether you live here or you’re just passing through, Bigfork’s downtown is a place you’re going to want to spend some time. Park your car and plan to stroll through the village, checking out local shops, restaurants and stores along the way.
4. You’ll find tasty food and drink options.
If you’re looking for delicious grub or a place to grab a drink, you don’t have to look far in Bigfork. A few places to put on your must-dine list: The Sitting Duck (try the huckleberry wings), The Raven, Echo Lake Cafe, Whistling Andy, Pocketstone Cafe and Quarter Circle (a seasonal winter restaurant at Flathead Lake Lodge), to name a few. See the full list here.
5. Bigfork has abundant recreational opportunities.
There are so many things to do in Montana’s great outdoors in and around Bigfork and northwest Montana. There are hiking and mountain biking trails that are easy to reach from Bigfork, including the Swan River Nature Trail and Jewel Basin Hiking Area. Plus, there are numerous state parks along Flathead Lake that are prime for recreation, from hiking to swimming and more.
